About Smoky Mountain Woodworks

I am Lance Brown, and I am the owner / operator of Smoky Mountain Woodworks. I am located in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.

My story as a woodworker began like so many others. My wife wanted to have nice furniture, but as a young married couple with children, money was tight. I have always enjoyed working with my hands, so I decided to learn how to build what we wanted myself. This process of learning started by partnering with a very good friend who is lifelong woodworker, on a few projects. Over time, I discovered the vast amount of content on YouTube that has provided many time saving tools that can be applied everyday. Through this learning process, what I discovered was that I loved building things. Taking a large raw slab of wood and turning it into something beautiful that will be enjoyed for many years to come is something that I take pride in.

Building traditional tables, desks, and shelves is something I have done. Most recently, I have preferred the look and feel of live edge finishes, as this brings out the one of a kind natural beauty of the tree that was harvested to create that individual piece.

I like to incorporate things into my work that will make each piece standout among all the other options that are available out there. Some of these things include adding contrasting inlays such as bowties, colored epoxy rivers, and metal legs.

I also enjoy building smaller items such as hardwood cutting boards and charcuterie boards. As a US Marine, I take great pride in the American Flag and the freedom that it stands for. I also build wooden flags that can be displayed in any setting. These flags can be simple or they can incorporate complex ideas with engravings of military, fire, or police insignia, as well as add-ons like rifle, compound bow, or sword display hangers.
